The main difference between lamella flooring and veneer wood flooring lies in the thickness of the surface layer. A veneer wood floor usually has a surface layer of around 1 mm, while a lamella floor has a thicker top layer.
Veneer wood flooring is typically made with two or three layers. All Alpine Floor veneer wood floors feature a three-layer construction, consisting of a surface layer, a core layer, and a backing layer. The surface layer is available in a wide range of wood species, color variations, and surface finishes. The core layer is made of HDF (High Density Fibreboard), a highly durable board produced from compressed wood fibres, making it well suited to floors that must withstand daily wear. Beneath the HDF core is a veneer backing layer. These components are bonded together under heat and pressure to create a strong and durable structure. The total thickness of all layers combined is 7 mm. Veneer wood flooring can be installed either as a floating floor or by glue-down installation.
Our veneer wood floors feature a multi-layer construction designed to reduce the floor’s natural movement. Wood is a hygroscopic, or “living,” material, which means it reacts to seasonal changes in humidity. In a traditional solid wood floor, this movement can cause the boards to swell or shrink, resulting in gaps between planks. Veneer wood flooring uses a cross-layered structure that helps counteract this movement, improving overall dimensional stability.
Veneer wood flooring is generally less expensive to produce than lamella flooring or solid wood flooring. This makes it a more affordable option while still offering an exclusive natural wood appearance. It is available in a wide variety of colors and surface treatments.
Because surface treatments often harden the floor surface, veneer wood flooring can offer good resistance to scratches and marks. This makes it suitable for spaces subject to regular wear, such as children’s bedrooms. However, unlike lamella parquet, veneer wood flooring cannot usually be sanded, since sanding typically removes about 1 mm of the surface layer.
Because veneer wood flooring is thinner than many other wood flooring types, it is well suited for minor refurbishment projects. In many cases, it can be installed directly over an existing floor, provided the original surface is level and stable.
In addition to offering good structural stability, veneer wood flooring is also a more environmentally responsible choice. It uses less valuable hardwood and makes more efficient use of natural wood resources.

Although a 0.6 mm wood veneer flooring wear layer may seem too thin to handle the daily traffic of a family home or workspace, it is in fact one of our most practical and durable solutions for these environments.
Our wood veneer flooring is made with a real European Oak veneer over an HDF core. HDF is significantly harder and denser than solid timber, and because the veneer layer is so thin, the core is able to absorb impact more effectively, reducing visible damage to the board. As a result, this type of flooring can withstand a higher level of impact than some products with a thicker oak wear layer.
The veneer layer is double-sided impregnated, with the adhesive on the underside bonding together with seven layers of UV-cured lacquer applied to the top surface. This process strengthens and stabilizes the veneer, making the floor highly resistant to scratches.
Because it is made from real timber veneer, no two boards are exactly the same. Each plank features its own natural grain pattern and unique character. Real wood also creates a warmer atmosphere and a softer underfoot feel. While this type of flooring may be similar to laminate in terms of construction, its appearance and tactile quality are far superior to imitation materials.
